E-Scooter Cost Savings – How Much Money Can You Save with an Electric Scooter?

Walking down the streets these days, it’s almost certain we come across somebody riding their own electric scooter, zooming past us as we trudge along. Electric scooters are the ‘in’ thing now, and it’s not hard to see why. These simple devices transform our daily commute from a dull chore into a fun ride.

Considering getting an electric scooter? An e-scooter is not only fun, its economical. In the long run, you actually save money on transport, all while having fun.

Your typical commute

Let’s assume Ben is a typical Singaporean who lives in a HDB flat and takes public transport to work every day. He takes a bus to the MRT station, takes an MRT to his work. He returns home from work by MRT and then transfers to a bus from the MRT station.

On weekends, he goes out with his friends or family. Again, he has to take the bus to perform simple chores like buying groceries. He also takes the bus to the MRT station to meet his friends in town.

Monthly cost of public transport

What if instead of taking the bus, Ben uses an e-scooter? How much would he save?

To be conservative with our calculations, let’s assume he takes the bus twice per day, or 60 times per month. Each time, he spends the lowest tier of bus fares, 77 cents. So he spends $46.20 per month on bus fares alone.

Cost savings from electric scooter

A basic electric scooter costs about $228. If you are similar to Ben, in just 5 months, you would recover the cost you spent on the scooter, and start saving more than $40 per month. That’s enough for a nice sushi treat for yourself each month, just changing from riding the bus to riding your own e-scooter!

More savings are possible

And that’s just being conservative. What if you were to take less MRT rides to nearby places? If you took two less MRT rides per weekend, you would save another $6 per month.

Add money, time and fun to your life

An electric scooter saves you money and time. By going direct to your destination, you don’t have to wait for the bus (10 minutes) or wait for people to get on and off the bus at each bus stop. You also do not have endure the rush hour crowd and squeeze with people during the ride. With a motorised scooter, you do things your way. Traveling becomes a breeze!

Getting an e-scooter is a no-brainer. Not only do you make a good financial decision, you save time and add fun to your life.
